Gatekeeping can come in so many forms, and while rejection is inevitable, my (maybe counter-intuitive) guidance that always seems to help is in those moments of frustration, and let's face it, sometimes despair--uplift others. When you offer assistance or help someone else out of any kind of jam or problem it transforms your attention and gets you focused on solutions and next steps from a place of generosity and strength. It's a powerful thing!

Hi, which grade would you recommend for beginner? I don't wanna buy the whole thing. I'm mostly gonna do simple sketches from life. I don't like very realistic drawings. And what about those jumbo and pitt graphite matt ones? Are they also good for beginner or not? Sorry if I'm bothering you with many questions)

I'm on a tight budget. Wanting a set of polys and the Albright durer. Would their mid size sets be sufficient for someone who does animal portrait work? I def can't afford the big sets.

Way late on this vid. Found it looking up Thomas Fluharty's work and his obsession with Prisma 901 Bleu Indigo (an amazing illustrator btw) - random observance playing around at home Luminance 159 Prussian Blue is the same exact tone as the Prismacolor Indigo Blue from what I can tell.

  • @manthasagittarius1

The colors are also reminding me of the subtle hues you get looking at natural rock formations and minerals, if you have any liking for landscapes with a lot of exposed geological features. Look at good photos of anything from chalk cliffs to basalt to sandstone to the crazy red earth formations in Africa and Australia, or even all kinds of minerals lying in shallow water at the seashore. If the colors themselves work well and you can combine them for even more subtle creation of hues, then they are perfect with perhaps another harder pencil type for surface texturing when needed.

I think this is great. I am in retirement, returning g to a modest kind of talent for art class in school that I left off once I started to pursue college and professional training, and work. I am thrilled how much good instruction is on the web, and how much real fine art you can do with colored pencils, which were almost like a toy when we were kids in the 50s and 60s. A real good foundation, and this is good advice too about pressure and how to lay down color because a lot of retirement age people have some trouble with their hands and need to work more gently. Colored pencils are a beautiful medium if you know how to handle them! Thank you!

I love the real distance you take from the pencil tip with your fingers on the barrel to get that feather light application. It took me ages to trust the control that much, but it was worth it. Nice to see someone doing it. I thought this was very nice and you had a lot of control and finesse over the "out of focus" green background. Do you ever use brushes with the solvent, or do you just like the Q-Tips? I used them at first, but I do like brushes for tiny places and edges.
